Narissa Narotam is a senior majoring in community health at CUNY Hunter College. During the summer, Narissa and the other members from this blog interned at Brookdale Center for the Healthy Aging. Narissa, as an intern, was responsible for going out to different senior centers and cultural centers in New York City. At the centers, the art classes hosted by SU CASA were observed and the teachers of the classes, as well as the staff members at the centers, were interviewed. From this experience, Narissa realized that she wanted to work with older adults in senior centers and nursing homes after graduating.

Dympna Roman lives in New York with her Husband, her three children, Roisin 15, Sean 6 and Conor 4 months old and her mother in law who acts as a caregiver when Dympna is attending college at Hunter. She is Majoring in Community Health Ed and hopes to graduate in the fall of 2018. After graduation Dympna hopes to work with the immigrant population, the elderly population and the undeserved. Dympna herself is an immigrant from Ireland and knows what it is like to have to live in the shadows when you don’t have the necessary tools to help you. When Dympna is not at school or work she spends all her time with her children. Some of Dympna Favorite things to do is take pictures of her children and doing arts and crafts. One of her biggest pet peeves is Mom shamers.

Roberta Berisha is a senior in the community health program at Hunter College. She is a mother to little Luljeta, who is a year old. After graduating, Roberta hopes to work for the CDC in regards to disease and work on her MPH. She would also to like with mothers and children in health care. Roberta has always had a strong passion in these areas, the desire to accomplish this came after having her daughter at just 19. When she’s not in school or work, she is spending time with her daughter, finding new adventurous things for her to do. She hopes to make a strong lasting impact in communities in regards to medical care. She is always ready to find new baby products and information, not only for herself but to share with others too.

Nalini is a senior in the Public/ Community Health program at Hunter College. She has children and a family she devotes herself to. She tends to have a nurturing personality and prefers to see people united instead of being divided. She works in the healthcare field now while attending college. She likes to travel, explore and embrace people of various religions, cultures, traditions, and backgrounds. She did an internship with Brookdale Center of Healthy Aging where  she worked with our elderly population. After graduation, she would like to work in areas of health education, promotion, and prevention starting from childhood to adulthood.

Mukarrama is a senior at Hunter College, majoring in Community Health program. Originally she is from Bangladesh and currently living in Queens, New York with her parents. She hopes to graduate next year in May 2019 and intends to attend graduate school in order to obtain MPH degree after completing her Bachelor’s degree. During the summer of 2018, she interned at the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging with a goal of improving the lives of older adults in New York City through data collection, research, policy, and professional development. Mukarrama is interested in spreading awareness on different health issues that are prominent in the underprivileged communities by providing basic health literacy, preventative care and treatment in expectations of helping people to live longer, better off, and healthy lives.
